Introduction to PVA
PVA is one of the most famous water-soluble synthetic polymers.
PVA has hydrophilic groups and hydrophobic groups in the molecule.
PVA film has high gas barrier ability, so PVA can be used for oxygen barrier, odor masking and moisture barrier coating.
PVA has good adhesive ability and can be used for wet granulation as binder.
PVA can be used for solid dispersion (HME).
Structure of PVA
PVA Specification
Specification of PE-05JPS & PE-05JP
Test Item | Specification | Method |
---|---|---|
Hydrolysis (mol%) | 85.0-89.0 | JPE, USP, EP |
Viscosity [4%, water] (mPa•s) | 4.6-6.0 | JPE, USP, EP |
pH (4%, water) | 5.0-6.5 | JPE, USP, EP |
The difference between PE-05JPS and PE-05JP is only particle size.
Our PVA meet the requirements of all three major compendiums.

Applications
Moisture Barrier Coating
PVA has good gas barrier ability and can achieve moisture barrier coating for tablets.
Adding 10 to 30 wt% antiadhesive agent to PVA can improve spraying speed.
Adding talc to PVA can improve PVA's moisture barrier ability.
Odor masking
Flexibility
If the tablets are swell by absorbing moisture, PVA film is not broke because of its flexibility.
Water Vapor Barrier
PVA has good moisture barrier ability. PVA and Talc combination can improve moisture barrier ability.
Granulation Binder
PVA has good binding and adhesive ability, so it can improve hardness and reduce abrasion of tablets as binder.
Tablet granulated with PVA shows higher tablet hardness than other tablets.
Anti Capping Effect of PVA
PVA has better adhesive ability than PVP and it can prevent capping.
Solid Dispersion (HME)
PVA is started to be used for HME carrier.
